APS Bomet are on the verge of making history as the first Bomet-based team to feature in Kenya's top-tier football league, the FKF Premier League.

The side needs just two more victories to secure promotion from the National Super League (NSL), starting with a crucial fixture against Nairobi-based side Kibera Black Stars at Jamhuri Grounds, Nairobi, on Sunday.

Currently sitting second in the NSL standings with 58 points from 31 matches, APS Bomet are eight points behind leaders Nairobi United, who have already secured promotion.

Under the astute leadership of coach Evans Mafuta, the Black Berets have demonstrated remarkable consistency, registering 17 wins, 7 draws, and only 7 losses. They have also showcased defensive solidity, conceding just 17 goals so far this season.

This year's performance holds special significance for the law enforcers, who have endured a turbulent journey in recent years.

After being crowned NSL champions in the 2021-2022 season, their promotion hopes were dashed following the nullification of the season due to administrative issues. They later faced relegation but bounced back with resilience, winning the Division One Zone B title in 2024 to reclaim their NSL status.

With just four games remaining, six points will be enough to confirm APS Bomet's promotion and seal a historic entry into the Premier League.
