Kenya Police will be crowned champions next month if they defeat Shabana in their next FKF Premier League match.

The Law Enforcers currently lead the 18-team league with 61 points, six points ahead of second-placed Tusker and seven points ahead of defending champions Gor Mahia, who have a game in hand against their arch rivals AFC Leopards.

Police narrowly saw off FC Talanta 1-0 over the weekend to solidify their top spot and their push towards winning their maiden title.

Kenya Police received major boost after Tusker lost to Sofapaka 7-1 in an eight-goal thriller match at Dandora.

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia also dropped two points after their 0-0 draw with relegation-fighting Murang'a Seal.

These two results handed the title to Police who just need one win in their remaining two matches against Shabana and Gor Mahia.

For Tusker to be crowned champions, they have to score at least 15 goals in their next two matches against Kariobangi Sharks and Kakamega Homeboyz to increase their goal difference and hope Gor and Police lose their two matches and win the league on point difference.

On the other hand, Gor Mahia must win all their matches including the season finale against Police and hope the leaders lose to Shabana to win the title. Gor face Leopards and Ulinzi Stars in their other fixtures.

Meanwhile, Moses Shummah of Homeboyz moved ahead in the race to win the golden boot after netting his 17th goal of the season in their weekend 2-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks.

He is closely followed by Emmanuel Osoro of Talanta who failed to hit the back of the net against Police.

At the tail end of the league, Bidco United, Nairobi City Stars and Murang'a Seal continue the fight to avoid the drop.

Bidco sit bottom with 29 points following by City Stars who have 31 points. Muranga occupy the relegation and playoff spot with 33 points.

Posta Rangers (15th with 34 points), Talanta (14th with 35 points), Mara Sugar (13th with 35 points), and Kariobangi Sharks (12th with 36 points) are all still not safe in the fight to avoid being relegated to the National Super League (NSL).

At the end of the season, two teams will be promoted to the Premier League from the Super League and two will be relegated from the top tier league to the second tier league.

The third ranked team from NSL will then face off against the 16th ranked team from the Premier League in a winner takes-it-all playoff played on home and away basis.

Currently, Nairobi United lead the NSL standings with 63 points followed by APS Bomet with 55 points. Darajani Gogo are third with 50 points same as Naivas.
