I first came to Nairobi in the year 2003. I had come with a group of two other girls from a school in Nyeri.

We had come to record a song as a trio, at Calif Records in California estate in Nairobi. While there, we met Clemo, the founder and recorded the song.

Usually, we would leave the studio late at night to head back to the place we were to spend the night.

So in order not to draw so much attention to myself, I would dress and walk like a boy, thinking this way I will keep unnecessary glances away!

My most memorable experience in Nairobi at this time was when I met some of the stars I had previously only seen on the television. I met Nonini, Jimwat, Juakali among others. This was an amazing experience for me.

I later went back to Nyeri after the recording but I returned to the city much later. This time, whenever I would get lost I would spot a building to act as a land mark and help me trace my way.

I have since slowly but surely adjusted to the city life.
