Vihiga, Gaspo dumped out of FKF Cup

Two teams at the helm of the FKF Women's Premier League, Gaspo and Vihiga Queens, were both dumped out of the FKF Women's Cup on Saturday.

FKF Women Division One team, KISPED, held Vihiga Queens to a goalless draw during regulation time and then edged them 6-5 in post-match penalties.

Gaspo Women also suffered the same fate in Nakuru, exiting via a penalty shoot-out.

Elizabeth Wambui gave Gaspo the lead in the 25th gave Gaspo but Mulindi Melon restored parity in the 75th minute. Nakuru City Queens held their nerve in the shootout to win 5-4.

In an enthralling match at the Ruaraka Grounds, Thika Queens secured a quarter-finals spot after edging Zetech Sparks 2-1.

Chris Kach opened the scores in the 17th minute with her counterpart Linda Ajwang making it two for Thika Queens in the 48th minute.

The second half saw Yvonne Kavere bag the first for Zetech Sparks who lost several gilt-edged chances to take the game to penalties, however, the game ended at 2-1.

Zetech coach Bernard Kitolo said his team gave their all.

"We threw everything at Thika but we just couldn't finish our chances and that's it," said Kitolo.

Thika Queens coach Fred Majani said they have their eyes fixed on Cup glory.

"We must end the season with silverware," said Majani.

Ulinzi Starlets, Kisumu All Starlets, and Royal Starlets also booked a spot in the quarter-finals.

Kibera Soccer Ladies and Falling Waters clash in the final pre-quarters today (11am) at Ruaraka Grounds before paving way for a tie between Kahawa Queens and Fortune Ladies at 1.15 pm at the same venue
