Kenya names team for 2022 Global Esports Games in Turkey

Kenyatta University gamer Shirley Adema shall lead a team of eight Kenyan gamers who are set to represent the nation at the upcoming Global Esports Games.

The World Championships is set to be held in Istanbul. Turkey, from December 14th to December 17th.
Kenya shall be competing in three disciplines; eFootball, Street Fighter V and Dota2.

In eFootball, a 1v1 soccer simulation game, Kenya shall be represented by reigning national champion Evander "Viera" Maina who will be up against 54 other nations.

Among those are seven African nations; Ghana, Nigeria, Tunisia, Djibouti, Libya, Somalia, and Namibia.
Marion Muthoni shall take part in the Street Fighter V category where 41 other nations will be competing for top honors.

In Dota2, a 5v5 multiplayer online battle arena, a team consisting of Shirley Adema, Barbara Maush, Magdalene Mumbi, Yvonne Nkatha, Maria Kiuru and Elinah Kemunto shall represent Kenya.

The girls shall be up against Argentina, New Zealand, Great Britain, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and hosts Turkey.

This shall be Kenya's debut at the Global Championships in what is the second edition of the games which are organized by the Global Esports Federation.
The inaugural competition was held in Singapore back in December 2021.
The team manager Ronny Lusigi has expressed his confidence in the squad.
"We have the top gamers in the continent. I believe they have got what it takes to go toe to toe with the best in the world. I believe we shall perform well." "I would also like to call on sponsors to support this team as we are short on some resources that are needed for effective preparation"
