Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) teams leave Mombasa today to Kericho hoping to defend the overall crown at the 41st edition of the Kenya Communication Sports Organisation (Kecoso) games.

Kenyan Premier League side Posta Rangers and guest team Zoo Kericho clash in the opening football match on Saturday at the Kericho Green Stadium.

KPA won the overall Mawasiliano Shield in 2019 in Kisii County before President Uhuru Kenyatta transferred the parastatal alongside Kenya Railways Corporation and Kenya Pipeline Company from the Ministry of Transport to the National Treasury in 2020.

The three parastatal's managements were placed under the coordination and integration in the Kenya Transport and Logistics Network.

However, Kecoso games were not held in 2020 and last year following the suspension of sports activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year's games are scheduled to run from September 17 to 24 where different disciplines will be competed for.

KPA teams have been training at the Mbaraki Sports Club in readiness for the championship.

Kecoso Secretary General Omole Asiko said that KPA were allowed to participate in this year's games that will be resuming after a two-year break by virtue of being the overall champions.

He said the games were initially scheduled for July 24-29 but were rescheduled due to political campaigns.

"We are all set for the games, where all the members are expected to participate in different disciplines," Asiko said, adding that golf competition has already been done where Abu Bakar won the event on 41 points.

He said the games will feature 12 disciplines. [Ernest Ndunda]
