Former World Youth 3000m silver medallist Patrick Mutunga and 2022 Durban 10K bronze medallist Fridah Mweu are winners of the monthly Parklands Sports Club.

Mutunga cruised to the tape in 52:28 to clinch the hotly contested men's 15km category as Mweu won the corresponding women's race in 1:00:27, yesterday, in Nairobi.

The run was used by the Standard Chartered Bank to drum up support for the 19th edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon set for October 30 at the Uhuru Gardens.

"Last month I was here and I won. I'm glad to have defended the title," Mutunga told Standard Sports.

The former world cross country championships junior bronze medallist, who is based in Ngong, said he is using the monthly competition to step up training and gauge himself ahead of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon, where he will take part in men's 21km category.

No one has so far dethroned Mweu from the 15km contest since March.

"This is my sixth victory. It is only in January that I finished second while February, I was out with an injury," Mweu said.
