England's Muir wins 1500m final as Kenyans finish 9th and 12th

World Championships bronze medallist Laura Muir of England on Sunday evening won gold in the women's 1500m final as Kenyans struggled in the race at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Edinah Jebitok and Winnie Chebet who carried Kenya's only medal hopes in the race could not withstand the pace of the top three Europeans who dominated the finals.

Jebitok finished six places behind the medal bracket in ninth place with a time of four minutes and 8.33 seconds as 31-year-old Chebet finished last with 4.15.48.

Muir won gold in 4.02.75 ahead of Briton Ciara Mageean who took silver in a Seasonal Best of 4.04.14.

Abbey Cadwell of Australia took bronze in 4.04.79.
