Kimeli and Krop win silver and bronze for Kenya in 5000m final

Nicholas Kimeli and Jacob Krop on Saturday evening won silver and bronze medals respectively in the men's 5000m final at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Kimeli timed 13.08.19 to win the silver ahead of Krop who clocked 13.08.48 for the bronze medal.

Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo won gold in a Personal Best time of 13.08.08.

Kiplimo denied the Kenyan duo a 1-2 finish after a last-ditch sprint in the last 100m saw him complete a double in Birmingham.

After winning the 10000m finals, Kiplimo made it two gold medals after playing a tactical game throughout the race.

Krop and Kimeli led for the entire race blowing away the vast field but Kiplimo stuck with them entering the final three laps.

The Kenyan duo led at the bell, inside the 200m curve and the final 100m stretch but they could not hold off Kimeli in the final 50m stretch.

The Ugandan moved outside the third lane and sprinted to the finishing line to win gold.

Elsewhere, Kenyan duo of Wiseman Mukobe and Willie Mutunga missed out on the medal bracket in the 400m hurdles final.

Mukhobe clocked 50.27 to finish fourth as Mutunga timed 50.60 for a fifth-place finish.
Kyron McMaster won hold in 48.93.
