Rugby: Menengai Oilers face Nondies in Sunday's Dala Sevens quarterfinals

Menengai Oilers will face off with Nondescripts in the Dala Sevens quarterfinals on Sunday morning after finishing top of Group B.

The Driftwood Sevens finalists thrashed Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) 31-12, narrowly saw off Daystar Falcons 21-19 before seeing off Kabras Sugar 21-14 in the Rai Derby to top the group.

Nondies on the other hand finished second in Group A behind Driftwood champions Mwamba.

They defeated hosts Kisumu RFC 22-5 and Nakuru 17-12.

On the other hand, National Sevens champions KCB will face off against Catholic Monks after another near perfect performance in the Lakeside City.

The bankers saw off Blak Blad 31-0 before overpowering Driftwood Sevens winners Impala 19-0 in their second match of the day.

Head coach Denis Mwanja oozed confidence alluding adequate preparations and tactical awareness foresaw the lions’ back-to-back wins.

“The boys took my instructions carefully therefore winning was inevitable. Our tactical approach guaranteed the team of positive results and we can’t wait for tomorrow. We want to come back here and replicate the same mentality and desire to win.” Observed Mwanja.

KCB was in Group C alongside varsity lads Strathmore Leos, Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad and Driftwood Sevens winners Impala.

The bankers are aiming for a Dala Sevens win to extend their current lead in the National Sevens circuit that stands at 58points. Strathmore Leos are sitting second on 53points.

Other semis fixtures will see Homeboyz play Strathmore Leos and Mwamba play MMUST.
