Kabras extend rule as Kenya Cup enters homestretch

Kabras Sugar remained on course to finish top of the Kenya Cup standings after thrashing Mwamba 56-13 in a round 13 fixture at the weekend.

The victory in Kakamega, which was Kabras’ 12th win of the season, saw them become the first side to hit the 60-point mark with defending champions KCB hot on their heels in second position, after overcoming Kenya Harlequin 29-3.

With three matches remaining in the regular season, the pair, who has faced off in the finals of the last three seasons, look set to finish in the top two, a feat that will see them receive byes to the semi-finals.

The third to sixth-place finishers will face off in the playoffs while the bottom two teams will be relegated to the second tier, the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Championship.

It is Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad, who caused the only upset of the weekend when the struggling students stunned former champions Impala Saracens 20-17 to boost their chances of avoiding relegation.
