Nemanja Matic and Marcos Rojo have been told they can leave Manchester United next month when the transfer window opens.

Midfielder Matic and defender Rojo are not part of United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s long-term plans and can go if they find the right club.

Matic has become a squad player, following the emergence of Scott McTominay and Fred as Solskjaer’s first-choice central midfield pairing.

Two Premier League clubs have expressed interest in signing Matic, while Rojo - a target for a Everton last season - is wanted by several clubs abroad.

Matic was brought to United from Chelsea by Jose Mourinho in a £40m deal in the summer of 2017, but when Solskjaer took charge a year ago, the 31-year-old was pushed out of the picture.

The Serbia international has started just two Premier League games this season and made only seven appearances in total in all competitions.

Rojo has also found himself marginalised this season, after being restricted to just nine appearances in all competitions.

The defender, who turns 30 in March, was signed by former United boss Louis van Gaal for £16m from Sporting Lisbon in 2014, but has struggled to secure a regular place, with injuries sabotaging his chances.

Rojo, who can operate at centre-back and left-back, is currently sidelined with an injury and knows a move away from United is the only way to resurrect his stalled career.

Argentina international Rojo has fallen behind Luke Shaw, Brandon Williams and Ashley Young in terms of the left-back position and is keen to move in January.

Meanwhile, Manchester United youngsters Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong could leave for nothing at the end of the season amid interest from Barcelona and Juventus respectively.

Both players' contracts expire this summer, meaning they are free to talk to foreign clubs from next week when the January transfer window opens.
