Patrick Vieira admits he could never ignore Arsenal amid speculation linking him to the vacant manager's position as that club.

But has reiterated he is focused on Nice and excited by the French club's project.

Arsenal have been without a manager since sacking Unai Emery following defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.

Emery's former number two at Arsenal, Freddie Ljungburg, has been installed as interim boss while the board find a permanent replacement.

The Gunners have since fallen to tenth in the Premier League under the Swede, picking up just a single point from his opening two fixtures.

Candidates to take the reins at Arsenal on a permanent basis include former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and ex-Gunners midfielder Mikel Arteta. Former Arsenal midfielder Vieira has also been linked with the job, and did little to dispel his interest when asked to address the speculation surrounding him.

"You can never ignore a club where you've spent nine years," Vieira told Canal+.

"But, honestly, I'm focused on this project at Nice, I feel very good here. It's a very exciting project.

"I've always said that I'm very happy in Nice. We're all working to move the club forward and there is potential."

Vieira recently received backing to become the next Arsenal boss from former team-mate David Seaman.

The ex-Arsenal goalkeeper said: "I want them to get a manager with a really strong personality. Either that or go the opposite way and get someone like Patrick Vieira or Arteta.

"If I had to choose between those two, then I would choose Patrick because he has had more experience as a manager."
