Cristiano Ronaldo reacted angrily after being withdrawn during Juventus' clash with AC Milan.

Ronaldo, 34, was withdrawn early in the second half after a below-par performance and replaced by Paulo Dybala.

The Portuguese stormed past boss Maurizio Sarri and straight down the tunnel after he was withdrawn for a second game in a row.

His exit ultimately paid off for the Italian champions with substitute Dybala scoring the winner.

Gonzalo Higuain found the Argentine with a fine pass and Dybala made no mistake as he fired his finish into the bottom corner.

Ronaldo was also replaced during Wednesday's Champions League match at Lokomotiv Moscow when he again looked unhappy at the decision.

However, Sarri said it was to avoid risking injury as the 34-year-old had complained of knee and thigh problems.

On the substitution against Milan, Sarri said: "It's not a problem. We must thank him because he made himself available to play in exceptional conditions, then I preferred to replace him.

"If he gets angry its part of the normality of all the players, especially one who has made sacrifices to be there.

"Over the last month Cristiano has had this knee problem, he had a knock in training and it hurt the collateral ligament.

"When he trains at or plays, it unbalances him, so he ends up overcompensating & it damages the calf and thigh muscles. It is affecting his performances."

The win sees Juventus return to the top of the Serie A table and makes it 10 wins from the first 12 games for Sarri since his return to Italy this summer.

They move back ahead of Inter Milan who briefly overtook them following their 2-1 home win over Verona on Saturday.

If Ronaldo is injured, he is likely to be a doubt for Portugal's upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Portugal face off against Lithuania and Luxembourg next week although they are assured of at least a play-off place.
