Auctioneers have reportedly raided the offices of Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) along Ngong Road, Nairobi.

Photos of the KRU offices being raided went viral on Twitter and Facebook amid claims that the Union has no money with pending debts.

Pictures of men who were hired by the auctioneer carrying away office furniture and equipment went viral on social media.

The Union has been struggling to cater for the team’s expenses.

The raid comes barely a week after Sports Federation expressed their frustration over lack of funding and delay of disbursement of funds by the Ministry of Sports.

KRU had submitted an annual budget of 280 million to the Ministry, but the ministry only approved 193 million for the annual budget.

“It is true auctioneers working on behalf of one of our creditors came today (Thursday) and swept away everything in our offices; furniture and computers. It’s an old debt of over two years and with our current financial situation there is nothing we can do,” KRU Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Kamau told Standard Sports.

“We are running most of our activities on credit. Government should come to our aid because we cannot run national squads without money. As we speak Shujaa needs at least Sh 3.5 million for the Olympic Qualifiers. They are expected to leave for South Africa on Wednesday next week."
