Alexis Sanchez insists he does not regret his move to Manchester United.

The Chile international, 30, joined Inter Milan on a season-long loan last month after a nightmare 19 months at Old Trafford.

United chief Ed Woodward broke the club’s wage structure to land Sanchez from Arsenal ahead of Manchester City in January 2018, handing him a massive £400,000-a-week contract before bonuses.

But Sanchez scored just five times in 45 games for the Red Devils, with poor form and injuries ensuring he struggled to showcase his best.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to place his trust in youth this summer saw Sanchez fall down the pecking order in United’s attacking ranks, behind both new boy Daniel James and 17-year-old Mason Greenwood.

But Sanchez says: "I'm very happy I went to Manchester United.

"I've always said that. It's the club that's won the most in England.

"When I went to Arsenal it was fantastic - I was happy there - but United were growing at the time, they were buying players to win something.

"I wanted to join them and win everything. I don't regret going there.”

Sanchez has joined Inter where he reunites with Romelu Lukaku, who also left United over the summer - albeit in a £74million deal.

And Sanchez believes that, if he’s given the opportunity to play regularly - having completed 90 minutes in just 13 games for United - he can show his best.

"I was happy at Manchester United too, but I've always said to my friends: I want to play,” he added to BBC Sport.

"If they would let me play I'll do my best. Sometimes I'd play 60 minutes then I wouldn't play the next game - and I didn't know why."

Sanchez was on the Inter bench for the weekend win over Cagliari, and is set to make his debut when Serie A resumes on September 15.
