Despite the upsurge in petty crime after the 2011 uprising, I’m told Cairo and Egypt in general, is pretty safe. My hosts add that I should not bother about pickpockets and all…but I’m here asking myself, is there a country devoid of these muggers? In some streets, you meet mean-looking ruffians and the more he draws closer, the more you cling to your earthly belongings that I walk around with all the time. I just can’t imagine being mugged and left stranded at this end of the world, with zilch knowledge of the Arabic.
