Wenger puts PSG under pressure and he makes final January 1st demand

Arsene Wenger has remained out of the limelight since leaving Arsenal in May.

The Frenchman left the Emirates Stadium after 22 years with the Gunners, but insisted that he would not be retiring and hoped to return to the game.

Wenger has rejected overtures from China and Mirror Football revealed on Wednesday that he was sounded out by Fulham as they looked for a replacement for Slavisa Jokanovic.

Instead, Claudio Ranieri has taken on the role at Craven Cottage.

As such, 69-year-old Wenger remains on the sidelines, despite links with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Last month, Wenger revealed that he is planning on being back in work by January 1, stating: "I don't know yet [where I'm headed]. I am rested, and I am ready to work again."

Paris Saint-Germain are determined that Wenger join them in the New Year, to oversee the entire football aspect of the club.

Wenger has already met with Thomas Tuchel, the PSG head coach, with the duo discussing a move for Lyon's Tanguy Ndombele.

Wenger has long been courted by chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi, but refused to turn his back on Arsenal. Last week, Wenger was in Qatar to meet with Sheikh Al Thani, the power behind the club who personally selected Tuchel as Unai Emery's replacement - despite the suggestions of others.

Paris United claim that PSG are increasingly desperate to bring Wenger into the fold, fearing not only him potentially joining another club, but also the possibility of him joining FIFA.

However, Wenger has no interest in joining the club while Antero Henrique, the current sporting director, remains in position.

Henrique has been under big pressure in recent months, with players unhappy with his role, Bayern president Uli Hoeness declaring "this man does not give a good image of the club" and his relationship with Tuchel having already broken down; the German was not Henrique's first choice for the head coach position.

The contract situation of Adrien Rabiot, the France midfielder, also hasn't helped Henrique's cause.

Wenger does not want to move to the Parc des Princes and run into a potential conflict.

Seemingly, his "January 1" declaration was a case of putting PSG chiefs on the clock to part with Henrique and create a position for Wenger.

Unless they do so, and quickly, Les Parisiens risk the man they want to shape the club's future heading elsewhere.
