Everton give K'ogalo a beating at Goodison Park

Dominant Everton proved their worthiness in front of their home fans, humiliating Gor Mahia 4-0 in SportPesa Trophy match at the Goodison Park on a chilly Tuesday night.

The major positive lesson that the record Kenyan champions might have taken from the English soil is by coach Dylan Kerr giving all the players some minutes in the historic fixture.

Everton went ahead after 15 minutes through Ademola Lookman when he finished off Cenk Tosun's incisive cross from the right flank before Kieran Dowell doubled the lead seven minutes later with a powerful low shot down the right wing.

Nathan Broadhead and Oumar Niasse then came off the bench to seal the Toffees' emphatic win with a goal each.

The hosts dominated possession in the early exchanges but were frustrated by Gor's defense, who were content to sit back and play on the counter-attack.

But it didn't take long before Lookman easily tapped home Tosun's delivery to give Marcos Silva's men the lead.

Dowell then doubled the lead when he beat goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch with a powerful low shot from a counter attack after Yerry Mina cleared Shafiq Batambuze's corner kick.

Gor Mahia's first attempt came on the half hour mark but George Odhiambo's long range effort went painfully wide.

This was moments after Dominic Calvert's shot was deflected for a fruitless corner.

A few minutes later, easily gathered Dowell's attempt before Harun Shakava made a self-sacrificing block to stop Lookman's effort on the stroke of halftime.

Gor showed some glimpse of brilliance after the break with Odhiambo making a brilliant run down the left flank, made a good delivery but Mustafa Francis missed a sitter before Batambuze made a goalline clearance to deny 31 on the opposite end.

Gor's best chance of the game came in the 60th minute but Mustafa fluffed his effort with the keeper Marteen Stekelenburg already off his line before Kerr made a host of changes.

Substitute Fredrick Onyango made a magnificent stop to deny Niasse in the 75th minute.

But in the 86th minute Broadhead made it 3-0 before the Senegalese strike hit the final nail in K'Ogalo's casket a minute later.
