Manchester United are set to review their security measures at Old Trafford.

Pitch invaders interrupted United's recent Champions League defeat to Juventus both during and after the match.

Shortly after kick-off, a fan ran across the pitch with his hand down the back of his trousers before being restrained by stewards a matter of yards from members of both teams.

Two fans of Cristiano Ronaldo ran onto the pitch after the final whistle, seeking to get close to the 33-year-old as he made his way off the field.

But United are set to look at their security strategy after one of the pitch invaders was found to have carried two toy guns into the stadium in a backpack.

"Carrying a children's miniature plastic toy gun into a stadium is clearly an irresponsible act. Fortunately, the actions of the pitch intruder at the Juventus game did not harm anyone," the BBC quoted a United spokesperson as saying.

"However, as the security and safety of all fans and staff is the absolute priority at United, the club launched an investigation. This includes a full review of our already rigorous security protocols."

UEFA charged United over the separate incidents and they have until November 22 to respond.

It is not the first time there have been security concerns at Old Trafford after the stadium had to be evacuated in 2016 ahead of a match with Bournemouth.

The encounter was postponed after a suspicious package was found inside the stadium.

The device was later determined to be fake and had been accidentally left behind after a routine training exercise.

United's next home match is not until November 24 against Crystal Palace when new plans could be put into place.

The Red Devils face three away games in just eight days with trips to Bournemouth, Juventus and rivals City in the Manchester derby next weekend.
