Following the exit of national rugby Sevens team strength and conditioning coach Geoffrey Kimani, the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), through acting CEO Sylvia Kamau, has announced that plans are underway to appoint Kimani’s replacement.

Speaking to The Standard Sports, Kamau said they received formal communication of Kimani’s decision to step down.

She added that they will appoint Kimani’s replacement before the 2018/19 HSBC Sevens Series kicks off with the Dubai leg later this month.

“We received official communication of Kimani’s resignation and we intend to meet today (yesterday) to discuss the way forward. Hopefully, we shall find a replacement before the HSBC World Sevens Series kicks off,” Kamau said.

Barely a month after he was re-appointed as part of Shujaa’s new technical bench, the trainer, through a tweet on Wednesday, announced that he will not be renewing his contract with the Kenya Sevens team. The decision, he said, was informed by personal reasons.

“With the expiry of my contract with Kenya Rugby Union and Kenya Sevens, I have rescinded the decision to sign up a new one due to personal reasons and will instead proceed for a much-needed sabbatical. It was an honour serving both country and sport, always appreciated,” the tweet read.

Kiman, who has previously worked with runners and football players, was part of the Shujaa technical bench that led the side to Cup glory at the Singapore Sevens in 2016.
