Rangers pile more misery on relegation threatened Wazito

Sony Sugar lifted themselves out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 away victory over Mathare United in yesterday’s SportPesa Premier League match at Camp Toyoyo.

Tobias Otieno’s first half brace is all the millers needed to take their point-tally to 27 and extend the Slum Boys’ winless run to seven matches.

Meanwhile, Posta Rangers piled more misery on relegation threatened Wazito after beating the debutants 3-2 in the second match at the same venue.

It took Otieno just three minutes to break the deadlock when the midfielder unleashed a powerful long-range shot that found Mathare goalkeeper David Okello flat-footed.

Alphonse Ndonye then set up Cliff Nyakeya, but Sony goalkeeper Kevin Omondi denied them an equalising opportunity before he easily picked John Mwangi’s header.

Collins Neto could have doubled the lead after the quarter hour-mark but his effort went wide.

A few minutes later, Okello came to Mathare’s rescue, this time pulling off a fine finger-tip save from the burly striker Enock Agwanda as the millers intensified their search for a second goal.

Otieno grabbed his second goal of the day on the half hour mark when he brilliantly lobbed the ball over Okello.

Mathare came back into the second half a more rejuvenated side with unmarked Mwangi getting a real chance in the 54th minute, but failed to hit the target.

Agwanda then forced another fine save from Okello before Clifford Alwanga’s effort was deflected out for a fruitless corner.

Tyson Otieno had a chance to pull a goal back for Francis Kimanzi’s men when he danced through Sony defence, but he feebly shot straight at the keeper.

Meanwhile, the top-billed match between Tusker and Sofapaka will be replayed today at 10am after it was rained-off at Ruaraka Grounds, yesterday.

The match was stopped in the 15th minute due to heavy rains that made the pitch unplayable.

And after the rains stopped, the referees carried out a pitch inspection, but the ball could barely bounce hence the postponement.
