Kenya’s Njoroge set to officiate at Under 20

Kenyan assistant referee Mary Njoroge has been nominated to officiate in the Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup set for France August 5-24.

Njoroge, (pictured), who will be the first-ever Kenyan female referee to officiate at this stage, joins five other continental match officials on duty at the World Cup.

Football Kenya Federation Vice President Doris Petra said Njoroge’s appointment was a plus for the country and the federation.

Long-serving Zambian Gladys Lengwe and Ethiopia’s Lidya Tafesse Abebe are the two referees from Africa and will be joined by other assistants, Malawian Bernadettar Kwimbira, Lidwine Rakotozafinoro from Madagascar and Victoire Queency from Mauritius. Fifa has nominated 15 referees and 30 assistants for this year’s edition.

Njoroge was at the 10th edition of the African Women’s Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon in 2016, where she officiated alongside Caroline Wanjala.
