Former England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed his love for boxing adding that he is planning to engage in a ‘fist fight game soon.’ While talking to his former teammate at Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ferdinand said that he will be making his debut in the ring by February 2018 at the Betfair’s Defender Challenge. The former England skipper has decided to swap boots for gloves, and has maintained that he will be eyeing Contender Challenge in September next year as well.

British media have revealed that the Portuguese and Real Madrid forward has promised Ferdinand that he will gladly take his own plane and to watch Rio battle his competitors in the ring.

However, Ferdinand’s opponents in the upcoming games are yet to be known. This sparked responses from the pugilist embracing the sport. One of them is the heavy weight champion, Antony Joshua who has offered to compete against Ferdinand.  Another boxer, Ricky Hatton is said to have offered himself to come and ‘beat the hell out of’ the amateur, as Tony Bellew criticizes Rio Ferdinand for ‘belittling the sport.’
