National Olympics Committee of Kenya (Nock) Second Vice President Pius Ochieng’ has resigned from the federation.

Ochieng (pictured) resigned yesterday stating that his conscience does not allow him to put Kenya’s sport at loggerheads with the International Olympics Committee (IOC).

He said the IOC is meeting on July 7 to discuss Kenya and being in office and the pending case filed by the Tae kwo ndo association are part of the fodder that could fuel the ban of Kenya by the international body.

He urged his colleagues at Nock to follow suit saying the decision to continue staying in office was straining the country’s relations with IOC and that it was sabotaging the running of sport in the country.

“Today, I have decided to let go of a heavy burden that I have been carrying over the years as the second deputy president at Nock.”

“As a former sportsman who has competed at the highest level at the Olympics and major games I will be failing fellow sportsmen and women by not coming openly to disassociate myself with the actions at Nock that have put Kenya at loggerheads with the IOC,” Ochieng stated in his resignation letter.

In the letter, Ochieng somehow regretted his decision to occupy the big office saying.

“He said sport in the country will always be bigger than any individual.

He said the current Nock office should resign and the parties involved should withdraw the pending case in court that is withholding the national elections.

“If the IOC is meeting on July 7 and our court case is scheduled for hearing on July 30, when will we hold our elections as required by the international body?” Ochieng posed.

Ochieng said he is not interested in any post at Nock and that he will not be defending his seat come the elections. [Eric Ochieng]
