Muhuri Muchiri in perfect start

Muhuri Muchiri launched their national secondary schools rugby Sevens campaign with a 29-14 victory against Alliance of Central at Shimo La Tewa, Mombasa, yesterday.

They followed that with a 41-0 victory over Mghalu of Coast, before completing their group A task with an emphatic 43-5 win over Katwanyaa of Eastern.

At the same time, Rapogi triumphed 14-5 over Maseno in their opening Group D match, but lost 19-21 to Bungoma in their second tie. They beat Galana of Coast 28-12 for their second win.

Menengai High of Rift Valley dominated Group B, winning their matches with ease and booked a place in the quarters. They beat Nairobi School 26-0, Kangaru 24-5, then humbled hosts Shimo La Tewa 29-0 to finish top in their group.

Favourites Chavakali were the side to beat in group C as they won 26-0 against Kagumo of Central and 17-0 over Kaya Tiwi.

Muhuri Muchiri captain Harmorny Wamalwa said they will not relent until they achieve their target.

"We did well, but I believe we can play better. We have to be at our best in the knockouts," he said.

Meanwhile, champions Wiyeta of Rift Valley will renew rivalry with Our Lady of Mercy School, Chebukaka of Western in the girls Under-16 football semifinals. Olympic Mixed of Nairobi will tackle Nyakach of Nyanza in the second semi.

In the boys contest, Kakamega meet Kisumu Day, while hosts Ramisi take on Passenga of Central.

Handball queens Moi Girls Kamusinga take on New Jogoo Road, while St Francis Cheptarit of Rift Valley play last year's finalists St Anne's Sega.

In boys semis, Western's St Ignatius Mukumu meet Nyanza's Kanyawanga.
