The Kenyan football fraternity is mourning the death of former international footballer Simon Gundi.

Close family members confirmed Gundi died on Wednesday at his Mtwapa home after a short illness.

Gundi enjoyed a successful stint as a defender with Kenya national soccer team Harambee Stars and Kenya Breweries later known as Tusker. He played for Harambee Stars under the tutelage of the late coach Jonathan Niva.

Gundi’s demise comes barely five months after the death of legendary international goalkeeper and coach James Sianga. Gundi hailed from Rabai in Coast Region.
