It will be a make or break for Equity Bank Hawks and United States International University(USIU) Flames as the two sides returns to the pitch to contest Game Three of their Kenya Basketball Federation(KBF) women’s Premier League semis playoff at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi today.

The Hawks already have one leg in the final as they are leading the series 2-0 against the struggling defending champions.

Today’s win for Equity will be historic in that they shall not only sail to the league final playoff against Kenya Ports Authority(KPA) but they shall have booked a ticket to this year’s Fiba Africa Zone V Clubs Championship which is also a gateway to the continental showpiece later in the year.

“We are hoping and praying that we go beyond this level we reached last season. We have done our home work well throughout the week and have come up with a strategy to help us win against USIU,” Equity head coach David Maina said.

While well oiled Equity will be relying on the services of former KBF Most Valuable Players including Silalei Shani, Hilda Indasi, Samba Mjomba, and Mercy Wanyama among others to sail them to the finals and ultimately deliver their maiden trophy home, USIU is clearly limping following departure of six key players in December.

“We are not doing fine at all, you know we are an institution based team and students have to graduate every season. Last year I lost six key players and so now I am struggling to recruit,”USIU head coach George Mayienga said.

However, Mayienga believes his charges are capable of pulling a mighty come back today and ultimately take the contest to the wire

“All we are going to do is to keep total focus on this game. Should we manage to win Game Three then I can assure you we will make it to the final,”Mayienga commented.

Just like Equity, Zetech University women are also on the verge of winning the women’s Division One title after taking a 2-0 lead against Strathmore University last weekend.

This means should Zetech win Game Three of the series today then they will be crowned women’s Division One champions.

Another titanic battle also looms in the men’s Division One category where Zetech University are locked in a 1-1 tie with Umoja.

This contest is expected to be cutthroat as both sides are in search of the trophy to add on top of their qualification to the Premier League.
