Boro have confirmed the signing of former Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old passed his medical today, and has agreed a two-year contract at the Riverside after his release from Manchester United at the end of the season.

Boro boss Aitor Karanka told the club website: “You can’t imagine how delighted I am because it’s not usual to bring players like him to recently promoted teams.

“I’m really pleased because he is really committed. All the the conversations we’ve had he knows why he is here and he is coming to add to what we have.

“He knows how strong this group is. It’s a privilege for us to be able to bring a player like this to the club.”

Valdes made just two appearances during his ill-fated stint at Old Trafford before he was shipped out on loan to Standard Liege for the remainder of his contact.
