Manchester United are confident of landing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan for a fee of around £26million.
Armenia international Mkhitaryan is set to become new United boss Jose Mourinho’ssecond signing, following the £30m capture of Villarreal defender Eric Bailly.
Dortmund have insisted Mkhitaryan is not for sale, but after rejecting United’sopening offer of £19m, they look set to accept the improved bid for a player with only one year left on his contract.
Having already lost Mats Hummels to Bayern Munich and with star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in demand from Europe’s top clubs, Dortmund were reluctant to wave goodbye to another key man this summer.
But with Mkhitaryan entering the final year of his deal, Dortmund simply cannot turn down such a lucrative offer, with United having effectively forced their hand with their enhanced bid.
