Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has called for good governance in football and urged delegates not to re-elect the current office led by Sam Nyamweya.
“Nyamweya has messed Kenyan football for many years and time is rife for new faces,” said Omar. “Delegates to next week’s national election have the weapon to give the more than 40 million Kenyans a new era in football. I can not imagine having Nyamweya back in football after next week’s election,” said the Senator.
The senator spoke at Tamarind Hotel in Mombasa when he hosted Gor Mahia for a luncheon after the team landed in Mombasa for today’s DSTV Super Cup match against Bandari at the Mbaraki Sports Club. Senator Omar said Kenyans were clamoring for change in football management, adding that the 77 delegates to next week’s national election have the weapon to show Nyamweya and his team the door. “The right time has finally come for Kenya to have new leaders in football. For Kenyan football to grow to another level, the incumbent must go,” said Omar who donated Sh 100,000 to Gor. Also present was politician, Eliud Owalo, who urged Kenyans to support football as a way of engaging the youth. —Ernest Ndunda
