Barcelona's Thomas Vermaelen linked with shock loan return to Arsenal

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo are reporting Arsenal want to re-sign Thomas Vermaelen in January.

The Belgian left the Emirates at the end of last season after growing frustrated with his bit-part role, although Arsene Wenger never really replaced him.

Nacho Monreal has been forced to deputise in recent weeks and it is claimed the Gunners will look to bring Vermaelen back on loan.

Given the fact the defender is currently out injured - and yet to make his Barcelona debut - it is unlikely a move would be sanctioned. (Mirror Gossip)
