According to Sky Italia, Atletico Madrid turned down the opportunity to sign Balotelli - before he was offered to Liverpool.
The La Liga champions have lost Diego Costa to Chelsea this summer and although they've signed Mario Mandzukic, another striker is wanted. And it appears they had first refusal on Balotelli but boss Diego Simeone wasn't convinced.

Eto'o still wanted

Brendan Rodgers is still hoping to finalise a deal for Samuel Eto'o, despite Balotelli's impending arrival.
The Reds opened talks with the striker earlier this month as he searches for a new club after leaving Chelsea.
Merseyside rivals Everton are also in the running - as are Ajax- but Rodgers is keen to lure the Cameroonian to Anfield.
And according to Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzia, a move for Eto'o is close after fresh negotiations were held.
