Louis van Gaal has shrugged off Jose Mourinho's latest attempt at mind games ahead of the new season.

The Blues boss intimated on Friday that left-back Luke Shaw would have joined Chelsea this summer had it not been for his high wage demands.

With a cool £100,000-per-week under his belt the 19-year-old is the highest-paid teenager in the world.

But Mourinho suggested that had he sanctioned such a healthy pay packet it would "have killed stability in the dressing room".

When quizzed about the Portuguese's claims Van Gaal indicated he would rather discuss such matters face to face rather than in public.

"I don't have to answer, I don't think I have to discuss things with the media," he said at a press conference ahead of United's clash with Roma in Denver.

"It's better to discuss it with Jose."
