Kibera Talents beat Impala Club 2-0 to emerge winners in the inaugural Kibra CDF Football Tournament yesterday at Woodley Grounds.

Erick Ouma put Kibera Talents ahead only two minutes into the match through a well taken strike outside the penalty area.

Evans Onyango made matters 2-0 three minutes into the second half to give his side a deserved win, while Kibra Interfit managed a third place finish in the men’s category.

The winners took home a cash price of Sh25,000, a ball and a trophy with the runners-up pocketing Sh15,000, a ball and a trophy. The second runners up took home Sh10,000, a ball and a trophy.

Sunderland Soccer emerged winners in the women’s category after defeating Challengers 3-1 in post match penalties after the teams settled for a barren draw in the regulation time.

The one-month tournament was sponsored by Kibra MP Mike Okoth, who encouraged the youth from the area to embrace sports. He said there are plans to expand the tournament next year.

“This is our first edition and we hope to make it bigger and better in the next year. We will organise a bigger tournament next year named the Nairobi Cup where we are going to invite the 17 constituencies in Nairobi,” said Okoth.

He added: “We are using sports as a positive tool to teach our youth to live positively as they develop their talents in football.”

“During the tournament, the youth are taught to be grateful even if they have lost a match, they learn to be patient in life. The winners will also get a chance to play a friendly match against Bunge FC at the Nyayo National Stadium later,” Okoth added.

The tournament, whose theme was clean and green Kibra, attracted 20 men and eight women’s teams.
