Golf: Karen Golf club’s Anthony Murage is new KGU boss

Karen Golf Club’s Anthony Murage is the new Kenya Golf Union chairman.

Murage was elected during the Union’s Annual General Meeting on Friday at Muthaiga Golf Club, in Nairobi.

Murage, who will lead the union until 2020, takes over from Lucas Marang’a.

Marang’a will continue sitting on the KGU board as the immediate past Chairman.

The new KGU chairman joined the union in 2013 as an Executive and later served as an honourable treasurer in 2016 and 2017 before assuming the office of the vice chairman in 2018.

In his maiden speech, Murage thanked all golfers for having confidence in him and promised to dedicate his services to the success of the union.

“I promise to put more synergy on golf development as well as searching and developing golfing talents across the country,” said Murage.

Others, who were elected to run golf affairs in the country include, Royal Nairobi Golf Club’s Ben Omuodo, who is the new vice chairman, while Limuru’s Vincent Wang’ombe is the new honourable secretary. Sigona’s Peter Kiguru is the union’s honourable treasurer.

Other Executives are Thika Sports Club’s Ndiga Kithae, Windsor’s Karugu Macharia, Kenya Air Force Golf Club’s George Gathu, Vet Lab’s Njani Ndiritu, Muthaiga’s Philip Ocholla and Ruiru Sports Club’s Peter Kimani.

Regional representatives for Mt. Kenya, Central Rift, North Rift, Western and Coast will be co-opted after the first KGU board meeting in June.

The election of KGU officials is an annual exercise held at Muthaiga Golf Club, which is considered as home of Kenya Golf Union.

KGU is the governing body of golf in Kenya and was established in 1928 and all golf clubs are affiliated to the union.
