KFS urges golfers to plant trees

Golfers have been urged to take advantage of the current rains to plant trees across the country.

Kenya Forest Service Deputy Director (Finance) Anastasia Muasya said this while officiating at the Eldoret Golf Club last Saturday during their golf tournament.

She said with trees at golf courses, the country’s ecosystem and the peoples’ well-being will improve. She said KFS will continue with its sponsorship of the golf series next season.

The Eldoret leg was the final this year, having taken place in Thika, Moi Air Base, Limuru, Sigona, Nyali and Karen.  Zambian-based Ambassador Kipyego Cheluget, a member of the Lusaka Golf Club, was the overall winner of the tournament at the par 71 Eldoret Club.

The Handicap 19 golfer fired 23 points in the first nine and 17 in the second for an impressive score of 40 points. Kipyegon, the assistant secretary general of the Common Market of East and Southern Africa said the Eldoret course contributed to his performance since the Lusaka course is dry.

Handicap 13 Ankit Patel was the overall runner-up with 38 points. Losing on count-back to win the men prize was Chris Birgen, who also returned a score of 38 points. K Kimosop, who lost on countback to Birgen, was the runner-up men with 38 points.

Handicap 17 Grace Mary Karira was the lady winner with a score of 38 points while Jane Koech was the Lady runner-up with a score of 36 points. Chief Corporate Communications Officer Charles Ngunjiri returned a score of 34 points to win the staff prize.

The first nine was won by Amu Shah with 22 points, while Manu Sagoo won the second nine prize with 20 points.

Other winners were Dr Hellen Yego (the nearest to the pin), Sandip Grewal, (longest drive men) and Dr Chemutai Kenei (longest drive, ladies). The guest winner was Maneno.
