Strathmore RFC coach Mitch Ocholla has praised his troops for a hard fought 20-10 victory over Kenya Harlequin at their Kenya Cup at The Strathmore University on yesterday.
Ocholla feels that the boys deserved the victory after putting up a solid display at their home grounds.
“When we played against Nondies last weekend it was a bit scrappy and we didn’t perform as well as we would have wanted to,” he said.
“However, today we started the game well and that gave us the momentum, to open up a lead which we held on to the end,” he added. Ocholla feels that at this stage of the season, it does not matter whether you win with a bonus or not, because all the games are expected to be very difficult.

“It was important to get this win, because we are now squarely focused on making it to the semi-finals,” he explained. “It does not matter whether you are number one or number four, because in the semi finals, you both stand an equal chance of winning the tournament.”
Strathmore are now due to face Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) next weekend and Ocholla is equally looking forward to that fixture, “We know its not going to be an easy game, but we will head to Ruaraka and we will try to ensure that we do not slip,” he said.
“We want to work on our breakdowns, especially the rucks and I believe that we can beat KCB.”
KCB were given a scare at the University of Nairobi by Mwamba, but they were still able to register a slim 24-22 victory over the hosts.
Meanwhile Western Bulls RFC emerged 53-3 winners over Kisumu, while Nakuru RFC maintained pole position in the table standings with a 19-8 victory over Nondies at the Nakuru Athletics Ground. Impala RFC registered their third victory of the season with a 22-14 margin over hosts Blak Blad at the Kenyatta University.
At the coast University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine beat the Hosts Mombasa 25-8 in a tight match.
