Kenyan atheists push for one-child policy

The Atheists in Kenya Society has called on the government to implement a one-child policy to control the population in the country.
In a press statement, the organisation argued that limiting families to having only one child will benefit future generations by reducing the competition for jobs and inevitably improving the unemployment rate.
"We urge President Ruto's government to implement a one-child policy to control the population in Kenya. A one-child policy will provide many advantages for future generations, both socially and economically," stated the Society's President Harrison Mumia.
He added that, "A decrease in the Kenyan population will lead to less competition among citizens for jobs and unemployment will be alleviated."
The Society further claimed that studies indicate Kenya has one of the highest cases of children born out of wedlock in Africa and as such, implementing the one-child policy will not only promote family planning but also control population growth in the country and improve the quality of the Kenyan population.
He added that the policy will also help fight poverty in the country.
"Too many births in Kenya is one reason why we are experiencing economic hardships and cultural backwardness. The population should be controlled to combat poverty in Kenya," he added.
China implemented the one-child policy in 1979 to control population growth, but later abolished it in 2015 after younger populations dropped marginally.
