University shines in Africa's digital skills challenge

Zetech University bagged a Sh1.46 million cash prize after emerging as second position in a continental digital skills innovation competition.

The annual competition attracted entries from 26 higher education institutions across the continent and this year’s competition marked the third edition.

Zetech was among the 11 finalists representing the African region, showcasing its dedication to advancing technology and empowering young innovators.

In the competition, the institution showcased projects presented during the challenge including an Ecomobilus and Electric bike innovations by Paul Waweru, the Real Oil project by Samuel Oduor, and a smart farm project developed by a group of three students.

According to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Njenga Munene, "This recognition further underscores the university's dedication to advancing technology and fostering inclusive digital solutions that resonate globally."

While Veritas University of Abuja claimed the championship and BlueCrest College Sierra Leone secured the third position.

The VC said Zetech's achievement highlights its commitment to advancing technology and fostering inclusive digital solutions.

The judge's bench that presided the competition commended innovations by Zetech as collaborative.

Notably, Huawei donated training equipment to enhance skills development; while other industry players such as Oracle, Cisco, and Microsoft, provided invaluable expertise and resources, facilitating knowledge sharing and access to industry trends.

Additionally, the hub showcased a wide range of programs such as training, mentorships, hackathons, and competitions, all aimed at giving young innovators a competitive edge.
