Gor's Kagere missing from CAF squad

Influential Gor Mahia striker Meddie Kagere (below) is unlikely to play for the club in their continental fixtures as he was not registered for the Confederation of African Football Champions League.

Club officials are working to ensure they sign him before the January 15 deadline for registering players. Gor Mahia Deputy Secretary General, Ronald Ngala, said they are yet to agree terms with the player.

“We are still negotiating with him and incase he accepts, we will register him by January 15 which is the deadline,” he said.

Kagere is reportedly demanding Sh5m to sign another contract at the club, and Gor is unwilling to pay, arguing that, without a sponsor, it is impossible to afford such an amount.

Most of the names submitted are of those who played an integral role in last year’s league and without big departure so far, Gor Mahia will definitely have a squad to count on in this year’s continental assignment.

Apart from Francis Kahata as the only known big name to have joined the club, K’Ogalo had a shocking young player from high school making it to the list alongside their former goalkeeper from City Stars.

The four new signings included in the list submitted are midfielder Kahata, goalkeeper Gradus Ochieng from City Stars, defender Erick Ouma from Kakamega High and another midfielder Amos Nondi from Gor Mahia youth team, who was on loan at Sony Sugar.

Gor Mahia team manager Jolawi Obondo said they are chasing two other players and will register them for the Champions League once they get them.

“We are still in the process to acquire more players. If we succeed, then we will pay the late registration fee to have them play the continental football,” added Jolawi.
