Ruto, Uhuru in DRC for President Tshisekedi's inauguration

President William Ruto has arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to attend the inauguration of President Felix Tshisekedi.

Ruto arrived in Kinshasa on Saturday morning, in the company of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and other senior government officials.

His predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta is also in DRC for the swearing-in ceremony. The former Head of State arrived in the capital yesterday.

The two are likely to share a dais for the first time since Ruto assumed office in 2022.

Tshisekedi's inauguration is taking place at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa.

The Standard has learnt at least 18 African Heads of State had confirmed their participation in the ceremony.

Tshisekedi won the December 20 presidential poll by 70 per cent, securing a second term.

The Opposition however contested the election results, demanding a re-run.
