Nakuru, Kenya: A Nakuru county official was yesterday charged with demolishing a Sh10 million perimeter wall in town. London Ward MCA Francis Njoroge was accused of unlawfully damaging the wall, property of a cooperative society.

Prosecutor Cosmas Ikunywa had asked the court to have the MCA held in custody as he, together with others not before court threatened a police officer.

“We intend to add more charges and I request he be remanded for further investigations,” he said. Lawyer Hari Gakinya representing the MCA, accused the police of turning the court into a political arena.

“I have not heard any legal basis to hold the accused,” he said. He said the MCA had gone to report a crime allegedly committed by the complainant only to be arrested. The MCA denied the charges and was released on Sh200,000 cash bail or an alternative bond of Sh2 million with a surety of a similar amount.
