The Doma community lives in the north of Zimbabwe. They are hard-working, just like all peasants across the world. And like most poor peasants, a majority of them don't wear shoes.

Of course most of them can't afford to buy the shoes. But there are others, and they are many in that community, who can't wear shoes due to the shape of their feet. They only have two big toes on each foot. They don't have middle toes and the two outer ones are turned in.

As a result, the community is referred to as the "two-toed or ostrich footed" tribe. Well, there is a scientific explanation for their predicament. They suffer from a condition known as ectrodactyly. Ectrodactyly is an autosomal dominant condition resulting from a single mutation on chromosome number seven. [photos: Xinhua]
