Everyone will go through challenges at some point and time in their lives. These can range from relatively minor ones such as a bad haircut, to traumatic events like loss of a loved one, divorce or losing a job.

It is important to recognise that the time and energy to get over something is different for every individual and to practise patience when dealing with other people. Forcing someone to address and overcome an issue before they are ready can lead to other unhealthy behaviour patterns e.g. reliance on other physical distractions as an escape.

If you feel someone has stagnated on a problem, good advice may be to seek professional counselling, join a support group for people going through the same thing, keeping a journal, finding a mentor who has negotiated a similar problem or simply allowing the person time to heal.
