A new mum shared an honest photo of her post-pregnancy belly on Facebook and she could never have anticipated the reaction it would get.

Mum of three Sophia Cooper took a selfie showing her post-baby body because she wanted to show what new mums really look like after giving birth.

She posted her photo on Facebook one afternoon and enjoyed reading lots of lovely comments from people until she went to bed that day, reported BirminghamLive.

The next thing she knew she was getting a call from her mother-in-law at 6.10am the following morning.

Sophia's photo had made it on to Sky News, before it later featured on This Morning, Lorraine and in loads of newspapers.

Even the Australian Prime Minister called to ask if she could use the photo on her blog.

Sophia, from Redditch, Worcestershire said: "It just went nuts overnight and I think that was because people were saying 'yes, this is what we looked like three months after having a baby' and that it's normal, it's OK.

"I think that really resonated with women. I had lots of comments from women saying 'I feel better now', 'I thought I didn't look right', 'I thought I should have lost my weight by now'. I think reality is definitely distorted with filters on social media these days."

Sophia felt like she shared a message that a lot of mums needed to see, to help them realise they were doing ok.

"There'd been a few celebrities sharing photos of themselves in bikinis not long after giving birth but the reality was that, in July 2015, despite exercising and eating healthy during pregnancy, I had stretch marks , a muffin top and was wearing Bridget Jones pants," she added.

"I just wanted to say to other mums that this was OK. And I think a lot of women felt very reassured."

Sophia's attitude is born out of her suffering from post-natal depression after having her first child.

Her counsellor had advised her to do some exercise to help lift her mood, but after trying one circuit class, despite loving it, she hadn't felt able to leave her baby to go to classes.

Then one night, after chatting about it, her husband suggested she start a class where mums can take their babies.

So she booked a church hall in Harborne, Birmingham, and seven mums turned up.

"I never anticipated so many others would feel the same way, it was just something I needed to do at that moment," she said.

"So many mums go to classes and it's all about the baby, not about what you need as a mum.

"We never put ourselves first as mums so this is a really good way for us to do that whilst our babies are there with us."

From this, OneFitMama was born, and now there are 40 franchises of it all around the UK.

While it caters to all mums, OneFitMama is still focused on helping those with post-natal depression, as they can attend classes free of charge.

Since that first post on Facebook, Sophia has been on an incredible journey.

She was named Businesswoman of the Year at the Birmingham Awards in November 2018, and OneFitMama has been recommended by CBeebies Dr Ranj on Twitter.

Sophia has also featured on Motherdom podcast and in 2019 she went on the Lorraine show.

Since the fitness company launched ten years ago it has helped more than 50,000 women.

Sophia said: "I'm a different person now to who I was when I worked in finance before having children. Motherhood takes you on a journey.

"Every day I feel like it’s a blessing, especially when I get emails from mums saying it’s been a lifesaver for them.

“When I get those emails, it hurts because I remember how hard it was but it’s amazing to know it’s having an impact on them."
