Prince William has started making preparations to take over a major role from his dad when Prince Charles becomes King.

The Duke of Cambridge has held a meeting on his succession training, which will whirr into action once the Queen dies and Prince Charles takes the throne.

William will automatically inherit his dad’s “Duke of Cornwall” title and Sh131 billion (£1 billion) “Duchy of Cornwall” estate when the big day comes, the Daily Star Online reports.

The royal had been attending several meetings about the Duchy last year ahead of the major change.

And it has emerged he attended another one only last week – the first of the New Year – as he continues his preparations.

The Royal Family’s official royal diary – the Court Circular – states the Duke held the meeting at his Kensington Palace home last Thursday.

The meeting was held during half-term, as William continued working while spending time with his children during their break from school.

Prince William and Kate Middleton spent the week lambing in Norfolk with their children George, Charlotte and Louis, before the Duke of Cambridge visited Wales for last night's Six Nations match.

The diary states: “The Duke of Cambridge this morning received Mr. Alastair Martin (Secretary of the Duchy of Cornwall).”

William will eventually take over the running of the Duchy of Cornwall – which is a massive private estate of land and property which provides income for the heir – when Charles becomes monarch.

He will automatically inherit possession of the Duchy and be bestowed the title "Duke of Cornwall”.

The Duchy owns around 134,000 acres of land in more than 23 counties in the UK and is allegedly valued at Sh131 billion (£1 billion).

It reportedly generated Charles Sh2.6billion (£20.5 million) last year, which Charles uses to fund his public, charitable and private activities.

He also uses it to cover the official expenses of his family – including Will, Kate and previously Prince Harry and Meghan Markle before the Sussexes quit as royals.

Charlie Proctor, editor of Royal Central, had previously told Daily Star Online: “Just like Prince Charles is preparing to become King, William is already preparing to become Prince of Wales ready for the duties and responsibilities he will have to take on.

“As an example, William recently left his job as an air ambulance pilot to become a fulltime working royal. As time goes on his presence becomes ever more important meaning he has to commit all of his working time to royal duties.

“I think it is important to say that just like his father, William is also preparing to become King. There is no chance that William will be Prince of Wales for more than 60 years.

“As such, he must also learn the ropes because his time on the throne may come sooner rather than later."
