The couple's first child, who is happy and healthy, was born at 5.26am on Monday weighing 3.2kg (7lbs 3oz).

In a statement posted on Instagram yesterday afternoon, the couple said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

“This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty the Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”

Hours before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed their son to the world for the first time.

Afterwards the baby boy, seventh in line to the throne, was introduced to the Queen who will have given consent on the name.

The location of the birth still remains a secret.
