Former national girls under 19 football champions Olympic Mixed yesterday edged St Anne’s 2-0 to reach the semi-finals of the 2019 Nairobi Region Secondary Schools Term Two games currently on at Dagoretti High and Lenana.

In another under 19 girls match, Dagoretti Mixed routed Kariobangi North 7-1. Irene Namale and Lucy Kadzo netted twice each while Damaris Akinyi, Racy Akinyi and Christine Oloo were on target once each. Olympic will play the winner of the Maina Wanjigi and Loreto clash in the semis.

Dagoretti High intensified their hunt for the boys’ under 16 football with a 2-0 win over Ofafa Jericho. Baron Ochieng and Patrick Kaiser netted for last year’s finalists who are seeking to secure their maiden national appearance in the junior competition. In another clash, Waylight edged Uhuru Secondary by the same margin to reach the last four.

Ochieng who has been instrumental in Dagoretti High’s campaign said they will give their all in the semis so as to secure their place in the final. “We have set out to qualify for the national games, our senior football team did it last year and our rugby 15s and basketball teams set the pace during the Term One games and we feel challenged to emulate them and also achieve the same feat,” Ochieng said

Dagoretti Mixed, Highridge and Olympic Mixed qualified for the girls under 16 semis after winning their respective quarters. Dagoreti Mixed who came close to winning the title but settled for second best last year whipped hapless Starehe Girls 11-0.

Caroline Wanjala, Devine Chelimo, Selphine Anyango and Joyce Kanja bagged a brace each while Mary Wambui and Pauline Anita scored one goal each for Dagoretti Mixed as Starehe failed to make a reply. They will play Highridge who shoved Ruai Girls out of their way with a 5-1 win. Yvette Nyawira and Patricia Wambui netted twice while Janet Wanja was on target once for Hihgridge.

Jasmine Dianah scored Ruai’s consolation goal. Defending champions Olympic thrashed our Lady of Mercy Shauri Moyo 5-0 to inch closer to retaining their title.

In volleyball, former boys’ national champions Hospital Hill inched closer to reclaiming their title after booking their place in the semis following a 3-0 win over Upper Hill. Hospital Hill who are out to secure their return to the national games having missed last year’s contest won 25-11, 25-23 and 25-11. Uhuru Secondary also reached the semis after beating Muhuri Muchiri 3-0(25-10, 25-19, 25-4).

Girls’ champions Soweto Academy made light work of Parklands Arya easing into the semis in straight sets of 25-7, 25-8 and 25-4. Soweto who are looking to win their fourth regional title in a row will take on State House who dismissed Kariobangi North in the quarters in today’s semi-final.

Pangani Girls will clash with Brownhill in the second semis tie for a place in tomorrow’s final. Pangani beat Ngara while Brownhill eliminated St Teresa’s.
