Amani National Congress Party leader Musalia Mudavadi has called for establishment of a Special Judicial Inquiry to unravel the mysteries of death squads and police extrajudicial crimes.
Mudavadi said authorities should act fast and institute actual police reforms as required by the Constitution, rather than continuing with the stalled cosmetic exercises currently in vogue.
He said given the history of rogue police elements enjoying massive protection from their superiors through corrupt cover-ups, it is time to stop police from investigating themselves.
“On the occasion of the requiem mass for the Mavoko three, I wish to condemn unreservedly the recurrent spate of extrajudicial killings of innocent Kenyans by police. We need to borrow a leaf from the USA federal investigative system where no security agency investigates itself,” said Mudavadi.
He urged the Independent Police Oversight Authority to institute investigation on its own volition, rather than wait to be handed manipulated files.

He further observed that the Syokimau killing fields are not the only ones, saying that hundreds of other victims of police torture and death squads are scattered in unknown fields in the country.
"Kenya must guard falling into that despicable category by seeming to condone these heinous crimes. The Government owes it to Kenyans to distance itself from what appears to be a systematic culture of death squads being reared in the police service," said Mudavadi
